What Dr. Bazmi
Treats & Performs
Dr. Bazmi performs a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic musculoskeletal procedures using real-time ultrasound guidance. This means every injection is precisely targeted — improving outcomes and reducing risk compared to landmark-based techniques.
Corticosteroid Injections
Ultrasound-guided cortisone injections for joints, bursae, and tendon sheaths to rapidly reduce inflammation and pain. Commonly used for shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle conditions.
PRP Therapy
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections harness your body’s own growth factors to promote healing in tendons, ligaments, and joints. An evidence-based regenerative option for chronic conditions.
Viscosupplementation
Hyaluronic acid injections (e.g., Durolane, Synvisc) for knee and hip osteoarthritis — restoring joint lubrication and reducing pain for months at a time.
Tendon Fenestration / Barbotage
Ultrasound-guided needling of calcific deposits or chronically degenerated tendons (tendinopathy). An effective in-office procedure to break down calcifications in the shoulder rotator cuff and Achilles.
Aspiration of Fluid Collections
Precise drainage of joint effusions, bursitis, cysts (Baker’s cyst, ganglion), and hematomas under direct ultrasound visualization, providing immediate relief and diagnostic information.
Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
Comprehensive point-of-care ultrasound assessment of tendons, ligaments, muscles, bursae, and nerves — providing real-time, dynamic imaging not possible with static MRI or X-ray.
Nerve Hydrodissection
Ultrasound-guided injection of fluid around compressed or entrapped peripheral nerves — an emerging technique for carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel, and other entrapment neuropathies.
Return-to-Sport Assessment
Comprehensive functional and imaging-based evaluation for athletes recovering from injury — providing evidence-based clearance and structured return-to-play protocols.
Musculoskeletal Consultations
Thorough evaluation of complex musculoskeletal and sports injuries with individualized treatment planning, including coordination with physiotherapy, orthopedic surgery, and rehabilitation teams.
Every Injection.
Ultrasound Guided.
Not all injections are created equal. Dr. Bazmi uses real-time ultrasound imaging for every procedure — a gold standard that dramatically improves accuracy, safety, and outcomes.
-
✓Precision TargetingStudies show ultrasound guidance improves injection accuracy by up to 80% compared to landmark-based techniques in joints like the shoulder and hip.
-
✓Real-Time VisualizationWatch the needle and medication in real time — ensuring delivery exactly where it’s needed, every time.
-
✓Enhanced SafetyAvoid critical structures — vessels, nerves — with live imaging that landmark-based methods simply cannot offer.
-
✓Diagnostic Imaging IncludedEach visit includes a dynamic ultrasound assessment — often revealing findings that static MRI or X-ray misses.

Questions
Have a question not answered here? Feel free to contact any of Dr. Bazmi’s clinic locations directly.
What is a Physiatrist and how is it different from an orthopedic surgeon?
A Physiatrist (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physician) specializes in non-surgical diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. While orthopedic surgeons focus on surgical intervention, physiatrists like Dr. Bazmi focus on optimizing function and treating conditions without surgery — using injections, procedures, and coordinated rehabilitation. Many conditions can be effectively managed non-surgically, and Dr. Bazmi helps patients explore all conservative options first.
Do I need a referral to see Dr. Bazmi?
In Ontario, OHIP-covered specialist consultations typically require a referral from a family physician or nurse practitioner. Referrals can be sent to any of Dr. Bazmi’s three clinic locations. If you are unsure, contact the clinic directly and they can guide you through the process.
Are the procedures covered by OHIP?
Many of Dr. Bazmi’s consultations and procedures are covered by OHIP with a valid referral. Some treatments such as PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy may not be OHIP-covered and are considered self-pay. The clinic team will clarify coverage details when booking your appointment.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring your Ontario health card (OHIP), any relevant imaging (X-rays, MRI, ultrasound — ideally on CD or with a report), a list of current medications, and any previous specialist letters. Wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows access to the area being assessed is helpful.
How long does an injection procedure take?
Most in-office ultrasound-guided injection procedures take between 15–30 minutes from start to finish, including the pre-procedure ultrasound assessment and post-procedure observation. You should plan to have someone drive you home following certain procedures, and the clinic will advise you on any specific post-procedure instructions.
Does Dr. Bazmi treat both acute and chronic conditions?
Yes. Dr. Bazmi manages both acute sports injuries (recent sprains, muscle tears, sports-related pain) and chronic musculoskeletal conditions (long-standing tendinopathy, osteoarthritis, chronic bursitis). He tailors his approach to each patient’s stage of injury, activity level, and treatment goals.
